This military train is being led by an SD40-2 locomotive, built by the Electromotive Division (EMD) of GM.  The SD40-2 was one of the most numerous locomotives ever produced, but they are reaching the end of their life spans.  The small dust clouds visible below the locomotive are from sand being released in front of the wheels to improve traction.  The engineer for this train was a young looking woman.
